Trachyphyllia and Wellsophyllia are both beautiful LPS (Large Polyp Stony) corals that can be kept in a well-maintained reef tank. Here are some tips on caring for Trachyphyllia and Wellsophyllia in a reef tank:
Water parameters
Both Trachyphyllia and Wellsophyllia require stable water parameters to thrive. Keep the temperature between 75-80°F, salinity at 1.025, pH between 8.0-8.4, and calcium levels between 400-450 ppm. Nitrates and phosphates should be kept as close to zero as possible.
Lighting
These corals require moderate lighting levels. LED or T5 lighting can be used, but avoid high-intensity lighting as it can cause bleaching.
Placement
Both Trachyphyllia and Wellsophyllia should be placed in the lower to middle portion of the aquarium, with moderate water flow. Avoid placing them too close to each other or other aggressive corals, as they may sting each other.
Feeding
These corals are photosynthetic, but also benefit from regular feedings of small pieces of meaty foods such as shrimp or fish. You can target feed them with a turkey baster or a pipette.
Maintenance
Regular water changes and debris removal from the tank is essential to keep the water clean and free from detritus. Avoid using chemicals that may be harmful to the corals.
With proper care and maintenance, Trachyphyllia and Wellsophyllia can add a beautiful and unique touch to your reef tank.
